On May 24, 2022, at approximately 2350 hrs., Elk Valley RCMPolice were alerted to a vehicle that had crashed into the front entrance of Save On Foods causing significant damage. The Sparwood Fire Department was first on scene and had to break the window to gain access to the driver as the driver’s door was locked. The lone male occupant was unconscious and was taken to the Elk Valley Hospital for medical attention. He was later released from hospital and driven to a friend’s residence.

The male was arrested for impaired driving by drugs, dangerous driving, and possession of controlled substance. The incident is still under investigation.

There was no other damage to the building and thankfully no one was seriously injured due to the collision. The front entrance has been temporally repaired.
