From January 8 to 14 Lake Country Detachment responded to 39 calls for service. Some of the highlights from those calls are as follows.

January 8 a resident near Crystal Waters Rd. reported seeing a red Mazda car that appeared abandoned on Crystal Waters Rd. Officers attended and found the vehicle had a license plate stolen from Penticton. Further investigation also found the car was stolen from a West Kelowna business January 6 and fled police in Kelowna later that day. Kelowna Forensic Identification Specialist examined the vehicle and the files are still being investigated. File 2024-1296

January 8 was the first significant snow fall of the year. As a result, there were several collisions and other vehicle incidents on the roads of Lake Country. A friendly reminder to ensure we all have, at the very minimum M+S tire tread with preferably snow tires with the Mountain symbol. When the snow flies’ travellers need to leave more space between themselves and other vehicles, slow down as the posted speed is for clear weather conditions and ensure you have an extra time to get where you are going. Any time gained by rushing will be more than lost if involved in a collision or going off the road.

January 9 Two males entered an underground parking garage at a building at 3500 block of Woodsdale Rd. Evidence and surveillance from the scene shows one of the males using a tool to bypass the door latch. Once inside the parking area the males went through several cars before departing on foot. File 2024-1530

January 10  it appears the males returned to the parking garage at 3500 block of Woodsdale Rd. and this time were seen on surveillance bypassing the door locks and operating a vehicle, later determined to be stolen. The as yet unidentified males went through several vehicles stealing a number of items before departing in the stolen black Jeep YJ. The stolen Jeep was later recovered up Beaver Lake Rd. Investigation is ongoing and it is hoped both suspects will be identified soon. File 2024-1663

January 13  while on patrol an officer came across a vehicle in the ditch at Lodge Rd and Meadow Rd. The driver failed to navigate the sharp turn at the intersection. As the officer was speaking with the driver, evidence of recent alcohol consumption was detected. The driver provided two samples of breath roadside. Both samples showed the driver was under the influence of alcohol with a Fail reading. As a result, the driver was issued a 90-day driving prohibition and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. Lake Country RCMP continue to be proactive and patrol for impaired drivers as part of improving road safety for everyone in the community. File 2024-2198

January 13 while on patrol an officer found a vehicle parked on the shoulder of Pelmewash Parkway near Oceola Rd. The vehicle had no plates on it and was left unlocked. Checks of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) found the truck is from Saskatchewan and has not been insured since 2017. As it was uninsured and parked on a roadway the vehicle was towed. If the owner of a white 2005 Ram 1500 is looking for their truck they can contact Lake Country RCMP as we have questions. File 2024-2316
