Lake Country RCMP Week in review January 1 to 7, 2024

From January 1 to 7 Lake Country Detachment responded to 44 calls for service. Some of the highlights from those calls are as follows.

Early morning of January 1 a female broke into a residence on Pretty Rd. The female, known to police, took several hand tools and a BB gun before departing in her vehicle. This was one of a string of offences committed by this individual in a short period of time. Police have submitted a report to Crown Counsel requesting a warrant for her arrest.

Late evening January 1 Lake Country RCMP got their first impaired. This is the incident previously reported where the female driver stopped her car blocking the north bound lanes of Hwy 97. She refused to provide a breath sample and was released with a court date later in the year. Thanks again to the public that assisted in this investigation.

January 2 police received a report of fraud involving a bank card. The caller had lost his wallet and it was found by someone that had no intention of doing the right thing by returning it. The bank card was Tapped several times in local businesses resulting in over $300 in purchases. This investigation is ongoing and the caller has been reimbursed by his bank.

At around 9:15 pm on January 2nd officers were on patrol and observed a vehicle being operated in a suspicious manner. The vehicle was stopped and it was found the driver did not have a valid driver’s license. He was arrested for driving while prohibited, the vehicle was impounded for 7 days and the driver now has a court date later in the year.

At approximately 6:45 pm, January 2nd police were patrolling on Pelmewash Parkway South near Hwy 97 and observed a vehicle belonging to the female involved in the break and enter from January 1. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle however the driver refused and fled. Police did not pursue the vehicle as it was an unacceptable risk to the public. The female was eventually arrested in Chase detachment area for a number of offences from that detachment area. This was a great example of information sharing and planning over several different jurisdictions to stop this individual’s crime spree.

January 4 police and Lake Country Fire Department were called as smoke was seen on Spionkop Mountain. As emergency services were attending a representative from Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resources advised they were conducting planned burns in the area and there was no forest fire. It is great to see people looking after each other and the community by reporting these types of files.

Later January 4 it was reported a chain saw carving was stolen from a hotel on the 10000 block of Hwy 97(Picture below). Caller viewed their surveillance which caught the incident and found the carving was actually stolen January 1 and loaded into a taxi cab by a male suspect. This file is still under investigation and it is hopeful the thief will be identified. If you know anything of this theft please contact Lake Country RCMP referring to file 2024-693.

January 5 police received a report of a social media transaction gone wrong. The caller had purchased an item from a platform and paid for it through an e transfer prior to meeting anyone or receiving the item. As soon as the transaction was completed the item was removed from the platform and the seller stopped all contact. File is still under investigation however police are reminding the public to be cautious sending money to people they have not met for items that are not confirmed to actually exist.

A reminder now that school is back in to be patient and obey the rules of the road. We have received some complaints of cars blocking roads around schools causing a disruption in traffic flow. If attending one of our local schools please be considerate to other drivers and allow traffic to continue flowing while you wait for parking and your children.
