File # 2023-10337

On September 21 2023, just before 11:00 A.M. the Port Alberni RCMP received a report of a pedestrian that had been struck near the intersection of Johnston Rd and Adelaide St. Front line officers quickly arrived and found Port Alberni Fire Department and Paramedics with BC EHS tending to the woman in her 60s.

During the investigation officers learnt the suspect vehicle fled the scene at a high rate of speed after striking the victim, without any efforts to check on the victim.

The actions of this driver are gravely concerning. Thankfully the actions of bystanders have been vital to our investigation and the support of the victim. stated Constable Richard Johns.

Local officers were supported by the RCMP’s Integrated Collision Analyst and Reconstruction Service (ICARS), which required the road to be closed for several hours. Officers have canvassed the area and obtained CCTV footage from the area which does depict the collision and the suspect vehicle.
