Distracted tour:

The Kitimat RCMP received a traffic complaint on the 1200 block of Haisla Blvd on August 18th, 2023. It was reported that a vehicle was swerving on the roadway and crossing onto the shoulder, causing concern for other motorists. A description of the vehicle, including a plate number, was provided, enabling the responding officers to locate it. It was discovered that the driver was not intoxicated, however was giving visiting family a tour of the area and may have been distracted at times. A warning to focus on the roads better was provided. (2023-3120)

Fleeing motorbikes:

While on routine patrol on Haisla Blvd near the Kitamaat Village road, during the evening of August 19th, 2023, a Kitimat RCMP officer observed two dirt bikes driving at a high rate of speed heading south. The officer attempted to stop the bikes, however they did not stop. The manner in which the motorbikes were being ridden not only puts the riders at great risk, but pedestrians and other motorists as well. Assaultive behavior:

During the early morning hours of August 20th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP were requested to attend a business on the 800 block of Tsimshain Blvd. It was reported a patron of the business had assaulted another patron. When the officers arrived, the suspect was identified and arrested. During the arrest, the suspect then assaulted one of the officers. The suspect was lodged into the Kitimat RCMP detachment cells, and later released on paper work to attend court on a future date to answer to assault charges. (2023-3149)

Driving prohibition:

On August 20th, 2023, a vehicle was seen to be driving at a high rate of speed in a Strawberry Meadows neighborhood. A traffic stop was conduced and not only was it found that the driver’s license of the driver had expired several months earlier, they were to be served a 5-month driving prohibition. The driver was served with the driving prohibition, a violation ticket for speeding and the vehicle was impounded or 7 days. (2023-3152)

Dangerous driving:

While making patrols in the Strawberry Meadows area of town on August 21st, 2023, a Kitimat RCMP officer located two dirt bikes riding along the roadway. No license plates were observed, as such the officer activated their emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop. The riders turned and saw the police officer but failed to stop, then begun riding in an unsafe manner. Based on the description of these bikes, it is believed they are the same bikes and riders from a few days earlier. Later in the evening another dirt bike failed to stop for police. If you witnessed these bikes, or have any information of who the riders are, please contact the Kitimat RCMP at 250-632-7111. You can also report your information to Northern BC Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Construction zone speeding:

A vehicle was reported to have been speeding in the Haisla bridge Construction zone on August 22nd, 2023. A description of the vehicle, including the License plate number was provided to the investigating Kitimat RCMP officer. The officer was able to locate the vehicle. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind all drivers that the speed limit during this construction is 30 km/h. It must be adhered to, to ensure the safety of the workers competing the bridge replacement project. (2023-3184)

3-day IRP:

The manner in which a vehicle was being operated on Albatross Ave, caught the attention of a Kitimat RCMP officer in the evening hours of August 22nd. A traffic stop was initiated and it was found the driver had consumed alcohol before driving. As a result, the driver received a 3-day immediate roadside driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded. (2023-3195)

Found wallet:

On August 23rd, 2023, a found wallet was turned into the Kitimat RCMP detachment. The wallet was reported to have been found on the 100 block of Nechako Centre. A Kitimat RCMP officer made several attempts to locate the owner, however was unable to. If you are missing your wallet and can identify it, please contact the Kitimat RCMP. (2023-3199)
