Kitimat RCMP weekly report July 13th - July 19th 2023

Theft of bag:

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a theft on July 13th, 2023. It was reported a bag was stolen from a business in the Industrial area of Kitimat BC. The bag contained personal items including credit cards. It was further stated that the cards had been used at various locations within the town. Investigation revealed who the suspect was and once located, they were arrested for theft under $5000 and the use of a stolen credit card. The suspect was released with on upcoming court date to answer to the charges. (2023-2603)

Construction zone speeding:

During the morning commute on July 14th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP received a complaint about drivers speeding through a construction zone along Kingfisher Ave. in Kitimat BC. The attending officer attended the area and ensured the safety of the construction crew. The Kitimat RCMP would like to remind everyone to be patient, observe all constriction zone signs and be respectful to the workers that are attempting to make out roadways safer. (2023-2617)

24-hour driving prohibition:

While on patrols, during the early morning hours of July 15th, 2023, a Kitimat RCMP officer conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the down town area of Kitimat BC. An investigation into impaired operation of the motor vehicle was initiated and it was found the driver had consumed liquor before driving. As a result, the driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded. (2023-2621)

Stolen motorcycle:

On July 15th, 2023, a report of a stolen motorcycle was received by the Kitimat RCMP. The bike had been chained to a tree, however the chain was cut and the motorbike had been removed. On July 19th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP responded to separate file where the motorbike was located. The investigation into the theft is continuing to identify a suspect. (2023-2631)

Driving while suspended:

A Kitimat RCMP officer was making patrols in the downtown Kitimat area on July 16th, 2023, when they conducted a traffic stop. The driver was unable to produce a valid British Columbia Drivers License. A check was done and it was found that the driver was suspended from driving. The driver was charged for driving while suspended under the Motor Vehicle Act and the vehicle was impounded. (2023-2647)

Stolen truck:

The Kitimat RCMP are on the look out for a black 2011 GMC Canyon bearing British Columbia License plate RT6332, after the vehicle was reported stolen on July 18th, 2023. It was reported that the vehicle had been parked at the cemetery, last seen at approximately 11:00 pm on July 17th. When the owner arrived back a few hours later, early in the morning of July 18th, the vehicle was gone. The truck is described as having a dent on the right rear, by the tire, a fish sticker on the back window and a Haida Gwaii sticker on the back of the truck. Causing a disturbance:

In the early morning hours of July 19th, 2023, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a male causing a disturbance at a business located on the 100 block of City Center, in Kitimat RCMP. The Kitimat RCMP officers attended and located an intoxicated male, who had fallen asleep in a stairwell. The male was arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in public and was lodged into the Kitimat RCMP cells, being released several hours later without charge. (2023-2680)
