Theft of a Progator

File # 2023-1710

On June 28, 2023 at 9:50 AM a John Deer Progator with a sprayer was taken from the Christina Lake Golf Course sometime over the night. The Gator with the sprayer has a value of approximately $70,000. Tracks from the Gator could be seen up the rail trail and at the Santa Rosa parking lot, however, it has not been located as of yet. Busy day on the Lake

On June 29, 2023 at 1030 AM, Grand Forks RCMP officers while doing boat patrol on Christina Lake came across a stranded boater. His Sea-Doo was having mechanical issues and he was forced to begin a long paddle across the lake. The male was brought aboard and his vessel was towed to shore. The visitor from Alberta had all the necessary equipment on board including his life jacket, paddle, and tow rope. The man was very happy to have some assistance as he did not look forward to what could have been a 90 minute paddle.

RCMP want to remind boaters of the importance of having all the necessary equipment on board. This includes ensuring there is enough life jackets on board for everyone, paddles, tow ropes, bailing bucket, watertight flashlight and sound signaling device such as a whistle or airhorn. In addition, all operators of the boat need to have on them their pleasure craft operators card and the boats registration.

"The RCMP will have a presence on the water throughout the summer," states Sergeant Darryl Peppler. "Officers will be checking boats to make sure the necessary equipment is on board, to check for licenses and registrations, and to make sure there is no alcohol present."

Later on June 29 at 140 PM, officers were called back to the Lake for a report of an intoxicated male out on a canoe. Officers were assisted by the Christina Lake Fire Dept who had their boat on the water. Officers made contact with the male, a 51-year-old man from Christina Lake, but he refused to comply with directions. The man eventually made his way to a dock and hid under there for several minutes again refusing to comply. After several minutes, a police officer was forced to go into the water and bring him out. The male was taken into custody and brought back to the Grand Forks Detachment where he was further investigated for impaired operation of a conveyance (canoe). The man was released later when he was sober for a court date on September 19, 2023.

Excessive speeder loses his vehicle

On June 30 at 11:40 PM, officers on patrol observed a grey Mazda Model 3 driving east on Central Avenue at 25th Street at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was clocked doing 103 km/hour in a 50 km/hour zone. The driver, a 22 year old man with a class 7 drivers license from Burnaby, BC stated he did not know the speed limit. Unfortunately for the driver, his excuse was not valid and he was given an Excessive Speed ticket and had his vehicle impounded for 7 days. Drivers should know that the speed limit driving though most towns drops to 50 km/hour, a lesson this driver won’t soon forget.
