Vehicle clocked traveling at 108 kmh in Qualicum Beach school zone

A motorist was stopped for excessive speeding in a Qualicum Beach school zone and was issued a fine and seven-day vehicle impoundment.

On the morning of February 7, 2023 an Oceanside RCMP traffic officer was conducting speed enforcement in front of Kwalikum Secondary School on Village Way and observed a Mercedes-Benz car approaching the school travelling in excess of 100 kilometres per hour. The officer’s in car radar confirmed the vehicle’s speed at 108 kilometres per hour.

The vehicle was stopped and the 83-year-old driver from Qualicum Beach was served a $368 violation ticket for excessive speed. In addition to the violation ticket, the motorist’s excessive speed triggered a seven-day vehicle impoundment under the Province of BC’s vehicle impoundment program.

The officer said they were in disbelief when they observed the vehicle speeding at such excess through a school zone on a school day, says Sergeant Shane Worth of the Oceanside RCMP. Our officers spend time enforcing speed zones at all of our local schools and we remind the motoring public to take care and slow down in school zones in order to keep everyone safe and avoid hefty fines and vehicle impounds.
