On the afternoon of January 1, two snowmobiles broke through the ice on Lakelse Lake near Gruchy’s Beach. One machine was completely submerged and the other partially, after foggy conditions set them off course toward open water. Two men were involved in the incident and were able to make their way back to shore leaving the snowmobiles behind. Terrace Search and Rescue assisted in the incident and EHS transported the man to hospital for treatment to injury. RCMP are reminding the public to stay safe on the ice this winter as weather and environmental conditions can change quickly.
