Hit and run

On October 28 a witness reported seeing a hit and run in the Old Mill Plaza parking lot in Lillooet. The complainant reported he saw a black Ford F150 back into an unattended parked sedan, then drive away. The complainant alleged it was highly unlikely the driver was unaware they struck another vehicle given how much force it struck the sedan with. The complainant obtained the licence plate of the black truck and provided it to police. Police have identified the registered owner and are seeking to serve a violation ticket for failing to stop after a collision.

Intoxicated in public

On October 28 at 5pm, Lillooet RCMP conducted a foot patrol of Downton Park. There was a large group with several empty beers cans observed in the grass. One male was observed to be intoxicated with slurred speech and unable to stand on his two feet. Police arrested the man for being intoxicated in public, and transported him to Lillooet cells to safely sober up. The remaining group was asked to clean up the area and depart.

Roadcheck

On October 28 at 7:30pm, Lillooet RCMP conducted a roadcheck on Main St near 7th Ave. No motor vehicle act infractions or intoxicated drivers were observed.

No licence

On October 28 at 8pm, Lillooet RCMP observed a suspicious vehicle near Moha Rd and Main St. Police engaged in a traffic stop. Driver information showed they had an expired driver’s licence in September. The driver was served a violation ticket for no driver licence for $276.

Poaching

On October 29 at 4pm, a man reported a deer was shot on his property near Hwy 99 and Hwy 12. The complainant reported a deer was shot then limped away, but he did not observe the shooting and only the deer limping away. There was no further information. BC Conservation was advised.

Anyone with information regarding active or historical poaching is requested to call the Report All Poachers and Polluters (RAPP) line. This is a 24/7 phone number at 1-877-952-7277.

Impaired driving

On October 29 at 4pm, a woman reported seeing a newer grey Ford Escape weaving all over the road on Hwy 99 heading into Lillooet. Police located and stopped the vehicle at the bottom of station hill. The driver was incoherent and smelled of alcohol, while an open can of alcohol was observed in the centre console. The man was informed he was arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle, and was asked to exit the vehicle. The man refused to exit his vehicle and was subsequently removed from the vehicle by police. The man was then given a breath demand, but after being given several opportunities continued to refuse to provide a breath sample. Refusal carried the same penalty as blowing a Fail. The man’s driver’s licence was seized, he was prohibited from driving for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for 30 days. The man was transported to Lillooet cells to sober up and was released the next morning.

Assault with a weapon

On October 30 at 5am, a man reported his neighbour had been stabbed in the shoulder with a kitchen knife. Police and BC Ambulance attended. A man was located with a stab wound to his upper arm and stated a woman inside his residence had stabbed him over an argument about her paying rent. Lillooet RCMP located the accused inside the residence and arrested her for assault with a weapon without incident. The man was transported to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. The woman was held for a bail hearing, and was subsequently released by a judge with conditions and a future court date.

Fraud

On November 1, a man reported he received a text message asking him to provide a PIN number that was provided to him on his cell phone. The man entered the PIN back into a text message, and shortly thereafter observed transactions totaling over $11 000 withdrawn from his chequing bank account. The man advised his bank, and police.
