Member injured during traffic stop, investigation continues

On September 10, 2022 at about 10:30 a.m., during the Gran Fondo event in the Squamish area, a member saw a car driving erratically and swerve in to a designated bike lane on Highway 99 near Clarke Dr.
The member did a traffic stop and the driver tried to leave the scene, dragging the member on the road a short distance. As a result, the member sustained injuries that required medical attention, and has since been released from hospital.
The driver continued disobeying police direction and due to his actions was pepper sprayed by police. He was medically cleared by BC Ambulance Services then taken into police custody.
To ensure police officer safety and process the scene, Highway 99 was closed for about 25 minutes but has reopened. The Gran Fondo event continued with out disruption.
The police criminal code investigation continues.
