North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP are out at schools around the Cowichan Valley.

Officers will be in school zones throughout the day, to remind motorists to drive safely, slow down in 30km/hr zones, obey crosswalks and avoid driving while distracted.

"Our goal is to ensure that students make it to and from school safely," stated detachment commander, Inspector Chris Bear "we want to remind motorists to obey school zone speed limits, put down electronic devices while driving and pay special attention for pedestrians walking to schools."

Speed watch volunteers from the Cowichan Community Policing and Engagement Society will be out in school zones throughout the month to remind motorists of 30km/hr zones and display vehicle speeds on radar speed boards.

The North Cowichan/Duncan RCMP would also like to remind motorists that safety around school buses is very important. It is a Motor Vehicle Act offence for a motorist who fails to stop for a school bus; this offence can result in drivers receiving a fine of $368.00.
