Files of note

Motorcycle issues
On July 18th, a complainant reported that someone had dropped of a motorcycle at their business a few days previous. The complainant, who owned a bike repair business, advised that he did not fix motorcycles and was only in the pedal bike fixing business. Officers contacted the owner, who apologized and explained a friend was using the bike and it got a flat tire and left it there. The owner promised he would pick up the bike the following day.

Found and returned phone
On July 19th, a good citizen dropped on a cell phone that she located while out cycling on West Road. Officers were able to track down the owner when the phone rang. The owner’s mother had called, and police advised her where the phone was and where she could pick it up. The phone was subsequently returned to a very happy youth who had thought he had lost his phone permanently after leaving it on top of the family vehicle.

Possible shots fired
On July 21 Quadra RCMP received a report from the previous evening of possible shots fired near Joyce Road in Quathiaski Cove. The complainant advised that this had happened the previous year, however, it was confirmed to be fireworks. However, this time, he believed it was someone deer or target shooting with a handgun. The complainant didn’t witness anything, but did see a white jeep with black trim leaving the area and believed they could have possibly been involved.

Driving while prohibited
On July 21st, Quadra members were on Cortes conducting proactive patrols when they located a man driving a vehicle that appeared unfit for the roadway. Checks on the driver confirmed he was prohibited from driving. The man, who was not local to Cortes, was arrested and eventually released with a court date in the fall. Due to privacy reasons, more information cannot be disclosed at this time.

Boat checks
On July 21, Quadra members were conducting proactive Canadian Small Vessel Regulation boat checks at Quartz Bay. Officers stopped a 10-foot Livingston tender style vessel with an operator out of Washington. The operator was issued a warning for some missing safety equipment which was required on Canadian waters, but not in the United States. The operator was cooperative and apologetic, and confirmed he would pick up the required safety gear the next day in order to be compliant in Canadian waters.

Check well being
On July 22nd, a complainant requested a check well being on an employee. The new employee had just started working at that location, but had since failed to show up for work. When the complainant, who was the direct supervisor, checked her cabin as she was lodging with them during the season, he found it empty. Officers were able to locate the individual, who advised she just didn’t want to work at that location and had left without notice. The complainant was updated that all was well, save the fact that his employee was not returning back to work.
