South island crime spree comes to an end in Port Alberni.

West Shore, Sooke, Port Alberni, Emergency Response Team

On July 22, 2022 the Port Alberni RCMP received several calls of a suspicious man driving a BC Ambulance Service support vehicle west of Port Alberni.

BC Ambulance Service confirmed the vehicle was stolen the day prior in Ucluelet, further information indicated the man responsible may have stolen weapons during a break and enter the day prior near Sooke.

The same man was sought by police at West Shore and Sooke Detachments as released earlier this week. Read that article here.

The vehicle was located, abandoned west of Port Alberni and assistance was requested from the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Police Dog Services and Air 8 due to the potential of the suspect having weapons. Prior to the arrival of the ERT, General Duty officers located and arrested the suspect without further issue.

We truly appreciate the concern and vigilance of the public and the assistance from the Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services and Air Support stated Constable Richard Johns the citizens reporting the suspicious activity were instrumental in ending this man’s crime spree.

The man is held in custody awaiting a bail hearing for multiple charges from various communities across the south island.
