File # 2022-3515

On Sunday, July 17, 2022 at 6:23 pm, Salmo RCMP received a report of a crash involving three utility terrain vehicles (UTV) in the backcountry of Ymir, B.C.

It was reported that one UTV rolled in rough terrain. A second UTV attempted to pull out the first UTV; however, it too rolled in this attempt.

The three men, uninjured at this point got on the third UTV and left the area. While leaving the group encountered more rough terrain and rolled over multiple times. Two of the men received minor injuries while the third man suffered injuries that were more serious.

The men attempted to walk out of the area, but were unable to continue. Search & Rescue and emergency services were called to assist.

SAR successfully rescued two of the three men at approximately 3:30 AM on Monday, July 18, 2022. SAR, using a helicopter, were able to successfully rescue the third man a few hours later.

While the injuries have been reported to be non-life threatening, we are fully aware that this situation could have ended much differently, said Cpl Darryl Orr, Salmo RCMP Detachment Commander.
