The Vernon North Okanagan RCMP is investigating a fatal collision that occurred Highway 97A in Spallumcheen on Tuesday morning.

Shortly after 11 a.m., on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, frontline officers the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, and personnel from the BC Emergency Health Services and Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Rescue Services responded to a collision at the interchange of Highway 97 and 97A in Spallumcheen.

The investigation has determined a pickup truck travelling northbound on Highway 97 veered into oncoming traffic, striking two vehicles before colliding head on with a dump truck. Sadly, the driver of the pickup truck, a 69-year old Enderby man, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the commercial vehicle was transported from scene by BC Emergency Health Services for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Highway 97 was closed for several hours to allow emergency personnel to safely complete their work and for police to conduct their investigation. A member of the RCMP Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Services (ICARS) team attended to conduct a full examination of the scene and is assisting with the ongoing investigation.
