File # 2022-3874

On June 30, 2022, at about 10:55 p.m., police received initial reports of a tow truck driving erratically in the Brackendale area. Further callers indicated the truck had hit a number of cars.

Police located the truck, driver, and passenger after sighting the driver driving at a high rate of speed and smoke coming from the truck. The truck had fresh and extensive damage as police determined the driver had recently hit another car, causing pieces of the truck to fall off on the road and fluids to leak.

Through investigation, police had grounds to believe the driver was impaired by drugs, and arrested him for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and impaired operation by drug. The passenger had earlier driven the tow truck and hit another car. Police arrested the passenger for impaired operation by drug, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and fail to remain at scene of an accident.

After providing blood samples at the local hospital to aid in determining levels of impairment, police released the driver and passenger with future court dates.

Even though property damage was quite extensive, fortunately, there were no injuries to anyone, says Corporal Angela Kermer of the Squamish RCMP. Community and police coordination really helped stop this event from evolving further.
