Motor vehicle incident

On June 24th, 2022 Kitimat RCMP responded to a Motor Vehicle Incident on the North Kitimat Forest Service road. A water truck rolled down a steep embankment at the 18km marker toward Hunter Creek. The driver was safely extracted from the vehicle and did not sustain any injuries.

Rescued kayaker

On June 24th, 2022 Kitimat RCMP received a notification from the International Emergency Response Coordination Centre of an SOS beacon that had been activated. Police were further notified that a kayaker had gotten separated from their kayak in the river. Kitimat Search and Rescue was called in and the owner located around 4:30am on the 25th in good health. Kitimat RCMP would like to remind everyone that proper planning and equipment is necessary to be safe on the river.

Commercial alarms

On June 25th, 2022 Kitimat RCMP responded to multiple commercial alarms. One in the area of Service Centre and the other in the 200 block of City Centre. Both alarms were deemed false by police.

House party

On June 25th, 2022 Kitimat RCMP received a report of a loud house party. Officers attended and spoke to the residents who were cooperative and agreed to lower the volume of their music.

Erratic/Unsafe dump truck

On June 26th, 2022 Kitimat RCMP received a report of a speeding dump truck that also had a flat tire. Kitimat RCMP were unable to locate the vehicle. Kitimat RCMP encourages the public to report unsafe vehicles.

Immediate roadside prohibition

On June 27th, 2022 Kitimat RCMP were conducting a check stop on W Columbia Avenue. Police stopped a driver and the driver presented many indications of impairment. Police used an approved screening device on the driver who provided a WARN result. The driver was issued a 3-day driving prohibition and their vehicle was impounded. Police remind anyone who chooses to consume alcohol or cannabis, please plan your ride home.
