A Merritt man has been charged after a foot chase

A Merritt man has been charged with multiple offences after a foot chase with police while out on bail.

On April 29, 2022, Mr. Ronald Gerald James Karlson was released to reside in Surrey, as he had been in custody on a previous Merritt incident, where Mr. Karlson was charged with 15 counts, including Unlawful Confinement, Break and Enter, Commit Robbery and Steal Firearms, Flight from Police and Theft of a Motor Vehicle.

On May 30, 2022, Mr. Karlson pleaded guilty to Break and Enter and Commit and Indictable Offence, Possession of Stolen Property and Flight from Police in relation to the above incident. His sentencing was adjourned to fix a date on July 25, 2022.

On June 14, 2022, a local Merritt resident phoned 911 after witnessing a man smash the canopy window of a truck in the 2500 block of Coutlee Avenue. Merritt Front Line Officers responded and located a man matching the description. The man fled from police and after a short foot chase was tackled and arrested. He was identified as Mr. Karlson. Mr. Karlson was found to be in breach of his bail. 

Mr. Karlson has been charged with 7 new counts, including Mischief, Obstruct a Police Officer, Possession of Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose and Fail to Comply with Release Order x4. He is currently in custody pending a bail hearing on June 21, 2022.
