Drinking in public

On April 29 2022 at 11:36 am, Kitimat RCMP received a report of adults drinking alcohol in the public park space behind the Esso Gas Station. Police attended, observed empty can and bottles in the area. Police located two people leaving the area, neither appeared to be intoxicated or had open alcohol on them, however police did caution them on consuming alcohol in public. Police remind the public it is illegal to consume alcohol in public places, persons found doing so may be levied a violation ticket.

House party

On April 30 2022 at 11:58pm, Kitimat RCMP officer was on patrol and observed a house party disbanding on Sparks Ave. Police conducted traffic stops of the vehicles leaving to ensure sobriety and driving restrictions compliance. Police located the property representative for the house party, who advised that they shut the party down and the remaining people were leaving. Police remind party goers to plan your way home in a safe manner as police are out looking for impaired drivers.

Residential alarm

On May 2 2022 at 9:05 pm, Kitimat RCMP received a report of a residential panic alarm in the Cable Car area. Police attended, confirmed the alarm to be false after speaking with the homeowner who inadvertently set off the alarm while setting it up.

Speeding motorcycle

On May 3rd 2022 at 2:13 pm, Kitimat RCMP received a report of a speeding motorcycle on Kitamaat Village Rd the day prior around 7-7:30 pm. The report describes a black motorcycle passing approximately 5 vehicles and traveling at a high rate of speed. Police encourage all drivers to maintain safe speeds and driving habits to ensure everyone arrives alive.

Theft of tires

On May 4 2022 at 9:46 am Kitimat RCMP received a report of stolen tires from a vehicle that was parked on the property in the 200 block of 3rd St. The theft occurred between 3pm May 3 to 9am May 4. The tires are described as: LTD Country, size LT245/75R16 mud and snow, valued at $1500 . Traffic stop

On May 4 2022 at 10:54 am, Kitimat RCMP officer on patrol observed a vehicle operating unsafely. The police officer effected a traffic stop, noting that the tires on the axle were not the same size as required by law. The front tires had no tread, the officer deemed the vehicle unsafe to operate. The vehicle was towed to a residence of the registered owner’s choice and a violation ticket was issued for failing to produce a driver’s licence. Police remind all drivers that they are responsible to ensure that the vehicle they are driving is road safe and in compliance with all laws and regulations.

Coffee with a cop

On May 5 2022 at 10:00am, Kitimat RCMP and Fisheries Officers, were at Tim Hortons for Coffee with a Cop. Community members are encouraged to come out and have a coffee with the local law enforcement who are happy to field any questions or concerns, or just to chat and meet the members of our community. Each month Kitimat RCMP and their partner agencies will be at a local business or organization and will be happy to chat. Look for future Coffee with a Cop events.
