Have a Safe May Long Weekend

In years past, the May long weekend in Terrace has proven to have tragic outcomes, many of which were preventable. Police have found that it is not uncommon for teenagers to be set free for the long weekend in local campgrounds with a supply of liquor and no adult supervision.

Every May long weekend, police calls for service spike, and many of them involve youth, alcohol, or injuries. This impacts BC Emergency Health Services as well.

A review of police reports which occurred during recent May long weekends revealed countless calls involving youth and alcohol and sometimes injuries. The following are only a few of the calls for service which police attended on past May Long weekends and serve as a reminder to us as to what can happen when we fail to plan for a safe weekend:

We are urging, adults and teens alike to make wise decisions this May Long weekend, states Cst. Kelly Cates. Know where your kids are and who they are with. Put boundaries in place to keep them safe, and continue following COVID protocols.
