File # 2021-808

The Trans Canada Highway at Timberlands Road was closed on Friday evening while Ladysmith RCMP officers investigated a two vehicle collision, where two people were airlifted to hospital.

Just after 5 p.m. on Saturday March 13, frontline officers from the Ladysmith RCMP were called to a report of a two vehicle collision near Timberlands Road and the Trans Canada Highway near Nanaimo.

Upon arrival at the scene officers found that late model 4-door sedan had collided with a pick-up truck. The sedan had been traveling southbound when it collided with the pick-up who was attempting to make a left hand turn off of the highway.

The driver of the sedan, a 49-year-old woman and passenger, a 57-year-old man, both from Chemanius, were airlifted to hospital, with injuries which were later determined to be non-life threatening. The driver of the pick-up, a 23-year-old man from Lantzville, was taken to a local area hospital for assessment, while the passenger, a 26-year-old man from Ladysmith was uninjured.

A collision reconstructionist was called to assist in the investigation. The highway was closed for several hours as investigators gathered evidence at the scene.

Impairment has been ruled out as a causal factor, and the investigation is continuing.

Anyone who was a witness to the incident and has not already spoken with police is asked to contact the Ladysmith RCMP and cite file 2021-808.
