File # 2022-33833

Two Kamloops men are facing multiple charges following an early morning police presence on Surrey Avenue.

On Sept. 22, 2022, around 3 a.m., a Kamloops RCMP frontline officer was patrolling an area of the North Shore when he observed a suspicious white pickup truck in an alleyway behind the 1000-block of Surrey Avenue.

While investigating, the officer recognized a man known to police, in addition to what appeared to be a firearm, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. Further investigation that followed led to the discovery of more weapons, including a handgun located on one of the suspects, a long gun, ammunition, and a machete.

Michael George Luttman, 38, of Kamloops faces five charges for possessing a loaded firearm without authorization, occupying a vehicle while knowing there was a firearm inside, and possessing while prohibited a restricted weapon, a firearm, and ammunition.

Kevin James Beattie, 22, of Kamloops is charged with three counts of possessing ammunition while prohibited.
