File # 2021-21451

An investigation that started when a man attended the police station with serious injuries last summer has received charge approval against two people.

On June 27, 2021, around 2:40 a.m., a man attended the Kamloops RCMP Detachment on Battle Street with multiple stab wounds. The injuries were received while the man was at a nearby party on the 600-block of St. Paul Street. In March 2022, police made a public appeal for witnesses to come forward.

Following the investigation and subsequent charge recommendation and assessment process, the BC Prosecution Service approved charges and arrest warrants were issued for two people on Sept. 1, 2022, said Corporal Crystal Evelyn, Kamloops RCMP spokesperson. The accused parties turned themselves into police on Sept. 7, and were arrested without issue.

Rashad Dario Higgs and Destyn Tory Aird, both 21 years old of Kamloops, are charged with one count each of aggravated assault. They were brought before a judge and released with conditions and a court date.
