Cops for Cancer – Tour de North is excited to once again be riding in support of childhood cancer research. Cops for Cancer is an exciting annual event where law enforcement and emergency services personnel cycle across parts of Canada raising money for childhood cancer research and support services at the Canadian Cancer Society. This year, along with four other Cops for Cancer tours, Tour de North Riders will cycle over 800km across the varied terrains of Northern B.C. from September 14-20.

Over July 7-9, riders held several successful fundraising campaigns to help us reach our collective goal of $150,000 raised for Tour de North.

Chetwynd hosted the Cops for Cancer team North Peace Blue Flames on July 7 at a Spin-off event. Police officers from the team were joined by Chetwynd Mayor Allen Courtoreille, Councilor Mel Deck, Chetwynd Secondary School Prinicipal Mr. Would and Vice Principal Ms. Clarke. This event raised over $11,000 for the team.

Riders from Houston held a fundraiser at the Four Rivers Co-Op on July 8. Constable Harry Dhaliwal and community members Sue Jones and Cindy Sullivan held the BBQ fundraiser that brought in an amazing $4500 for their team, Bulkley Valley Cycling All Stars.

Then on July 9, team North Peace Blue Flames raised $1600 at a second Spin-off event in Fort Saint John. Riders were joined by members of the Taylor and Charlie Lake Fire Departments. Special thanks go to the Chetwynd Safeway, Butcher Block, McSuds Car Wash and Fort Saint John Systems Rental Source for their generous donations of equipment and supplies for this event.
